E. B. Carpenter was born in New York and lived in Indiana and Iowa before moving to Kansas in 1870. In the History of Kansas by A. T. Andreds, 1883, vol II, page 1566, reference is made to E. B. Carpenter establishing a sawmill. His children were: James Wilson Carpenter (1853 - 1942) Sam Clay Carpenter (1855 -), William Baily Boswell Carpenter (1859 -),Gorge Addison Carpenter (1863), and Joseph Henry Carpenter (1865 -). to Parke County, IN in abt 1845
