Zachariah Bailey Thomason was the son of Harmon Thomason. He was born in Hall County GA and was a Confederate soldier. He served in the Georgia Infantry and was wounded at the battle of Crampton\'s Pass, MD in Sept of 1862. Permanently crippled by that wound, he spent the remainder of the war as an enrollment officer in Hall County. In 1864 he married Nancy Kelton. Nancy was the granddaughter of William and Nancy Wells. William Wells had gone to Texas in 1836 with David Crockett and was killed with Crockett and the other Texas heroes at the Alamo. The Wells and Kelton family got land from the state of Texas for William\'s service to Texas. Some is in family hands to this day, in Clay County.
Z.B. Thomason traveled the rails after the war, selling various products at stops along the way. His final move was to Haskell, Haskell County TX where he owned and operated a small grocery on the courthouse square. His oldest son Elias Pinkney, Pink, was partners with him. Two other sons were George and Young, both of whom were lawyers. He had other children as well, the youngest of which was my Grandfather John Allen. ZB is buried at Willow Cemetery in Haskell.
