Alexander GILLESPIE served as a wagon driver in the Quartermaster Corps in South Carolina during the Revolutionary War [Audit Stub Indents, SC Archives]. He was a resident of Washington Co., GA in 1785 when he applied for a Headright Land Grant [land located in Wilkes Co., GA] and in Greene Co., GA when the grant was finalized in 1790 [ Bk. TTT, Pg. 319, Georgia Land Grants, GA State Archives]. He sold that land in 1792 and moved to Jackson Co., GA. Alexander received additional land in Jackson Co., GA in 1799 [Bk. BBBBB, Pg. 372, GA State Archives]. He and his wife, Sarah sold their land in Jackson Co., GA on 6 Nov 1811 [Deed Book F, Pg. 240] and in 1813 claimed a section of land in St. Tammany Parish, LA as ^an actual settler since August 1812^ [American State Papers, Public Lands; Vol. III, p. 6-76]. He was enumerated in Washington Par., LA in 1820 as 'Elick Gilaspy'[Pg. 189, Ln. 9]. He appeared on the 1830 Census of Copiah Co., MS [Pg. 120] and died there on 16 Nov 1839 [Estate File, Copiah Co., MS][Obituary in The Southern Star; Vol. 3, No.2; 7 Dec 1839]. to SC in abt 1776
