Robert Hicks, son of John Hicks and Elinor Ellison was one of four brothers born on Long Island NY in the early 1700\\\'s. Three of the brothers (Robert, William and Thomas) took what they got from their father when he died and moved to North Carolina. Robert was first in Bertie County NC. He married Sarah Reeves (b. 1722 d. 1806 daughter of William Reeves and Margarret Burgess) in about 1745. Then in 1749, he bought land next to his brother William and settled about 2 miles east of Oxford. He was father to Sarah Hicks (1746-1820) m. Thomas Bell, and then later married John Madearis; Abigail Hicks (1748-1809) m. William Yancey; Elizabeth Hicks; Faithy Hicks m. Jonathan White; Lucretia Hicks (1755-1806) m. Rowland Jordan and then John Locke; Robert B. Hicks (1759-1825) m. Sarah Ravens; Isaac Hicks (1760-1829) m. Elizabeth Hines.
