His parents came from Ripley, Jackson County, WV. When Fred was born,Lakin was in Finney County, it is now in Kearny County. Fred was married sometime in the early century to Stella Cheesman. They had a daughter and lived in Colorado. His second wife was Lena Elizabeth Bridgewater. They married some where in OK or MO about 1928. They moved quite a bit during the early 30's living in their automobile with their first three children while they traveled from the South to California, working along the way at any job they could find (migrant picking, making craft items to sell door-to-door etc). to Pueblo, Pueblo County, CO in 1932
