CONRAD GRIES, son of John and Anna (Staab) was born near Cincinnati, OH, in 1848. His parents were natives of Bavaria, Germany. The father was born in 1800, and the mother four years later. In 1840 he with some countrymen immigrated to America. He located in our subject's birthplace (Cincinnati, OH), where he followed gardening for a livelihood. In 1850, he came to Posey County and settled on the farm where Conrad lives. (Alvin Gries is the present owner and is the fourth generation to farm this farm). He resided until his death in 1866. Mother died in 1854. Conrad received a very good education in both English and German schools. At the death of his father, he and a brother began working the home farm and two years later he tooksole charge. He now owns 97 acres. In 1866, he married Gertrude Oppel, born 1844. The fruits of this union were five children: Margaret (St. Bona OSF), Mary Kunigunda (Effing), Lizzie (Seibert), Joseph and Mary Ann (Elpers). After a wedded life of10 years, Mrs. Gries died, and a year later he married Elizabeth Knapp. They became parents of three children: John, Conrad, and Peter. Not mentioned were three younger daughters: Gertrude (Schmitt), Anna "Lena" Magdalena (Will), and Catherine"Katie" (Scheller, Gumbel). Mr. Gries and both of his wives were members of the Catholic Church (St. Wendel) and his politics were democrat.

ALBERT F. GRINZINGER Albert F. Grinzinger, 67, Kansas City, Kan., died Sept. 27, 1992, at Providence-St. Margaret Health Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kan.; entombment in the Mount Calvary Cemetery mausoleum, Kansas City, Kan. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Porter Chapel, where wake services will be at 7 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the church's building fund. Mr. Grinzinger was born in Red Wing, Kan., and moved to Kansas City, Kan., 60 years ago. He was a locomotive engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was a member of the church. He was a member of the Dub's Dread Golf Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Helen Grinzinger of the home; a son, Gregory A. Grinzinger, Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Janel E. New, Lakewood, Colo., and Julie A. Swanson, Kansas City, Kan.; and two grandchildren.
