GASTONIA — Richard C. Grebner, 83, 609 Dartmouth Drive, died March 7, 2001. He was a native of Hamilton, Ohio, Butler County, son of the late Frank and Anna Mae Grabloski Grebner, husband of the late Emma A.C. Hieber Grebner, educated in Dayton, Ohio, and University of Cincinnati, Army veteran of World War II, served in Asiastic Pacific Theater, came to Gastonia in 1959, worked in management for Wallace Computer Services for 25 years, charter member of St. Gregory Council of Knights of Columbus, served two terms as Grand Knight, served in other positions, joined the Fourth Degree in 1977, served two years as Faithful Navigator of George L. Gettier Assembly, Charlotte, elected to State Council in 1981, State Deputy from 1989 to 1991, active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, served three years on Parish Council, three years on Education Commission, coordinator for Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors, active in community, served on board of directors and past president of Gaston County Association for Retarded Citizens, member of Disaster Action Team of American Red Cross, volunteer for United Way. I am hoping that my Theresa Grebner fits into your family. She was born on April 22, 1874 near Metamora. She married August Volk near Lourdes in Feb 1894. She had 2 children with him, Bill and Olivia. August died in 1897 and she was married to his brother, Charles Volk in Peoria on April 14, 1898. They moved to the Minonk area a few years later and Charles worked for the Illinois Central Railroad until his retirement. They had 11 children together: 2 died in infancy, John died at the age of 10 months, Clara, Charles Jr., Ed who lived in Indiana, Isadore, Elmer, Lillian, Laura and Katherine, my grandmother who married Bert Wiechmann of Flanagan. Theresa's obit shows a brother and four sisters: John Grebner, Victoria Fandel, Mrs. (?) Peter Volk, Mrs. (?) John Kline and Veronica Grebner. No parents names are listed. I don't know much about this side of the family except what I have from Theresa Grebner's obituary from the Minonk Newspaper. Hope we are related !
