From an untitled, undated newspaper clipping:

In Eternal Sleep - Mrs Adam Gries Passes Away at Her Home at Benson, Thursday

After two weeks of serious sickness, Mrs Adam Gries passed away at her home last Thursday evening, aged 72 years, 11 months and 24 days.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at St John's Catholic church at Benson, and burial was in Benson cemetery. The pallbearers were Joseph, Andrew and Louis Leinweber, Andrew and Joseph Rufing and Joseph Reiter, nephews of the deceased. Requiem high mass was held at St John's Monday morning.

The large attendance at the funeral from many places gave mute testimony of the esteem in which she was held. Those present from a distance were: Mr and Mrs Wendell Schulthies, of Graymont; Mr and Mrs Andrew Butte and Mr and Mrs Frank Hall, of Bradford; Mrs Andrew Gangloff, of Rensselaer, Ind.; Mr and Mrs Joseph Vetter, of Fowler, Ind.; Mr and Mrs Edward Knoblauch and Mr and Mrs Adolph Meister, of Peoria; Mrs William Ryan and Mr and Mrs William Hoff, of Henry; Mrs Walter Newton, of Peoria; Mr and Mrs George Harms and Mrs Henry Fitschen and son, Carl, of Washburn.

Angeline Gangloff, daughter of John and Mary Gangloff, was born July 26, 1853, in Patridge township, near Metamora. She was one of a family of ten children, all preceding her in death with the exception of one sister, Mrs Seraphim Gries, of Metamora.

On May 25, 1874, she was united in marriage to Adam Gries of Partridge township, who survives her. This union was blessed with six children, three boys and three girls: Louis, Jesse, Roy and Laura Gries and Mrs Alfred Ioerger, of Benson, and Mrs Henry Fitschen, of Washburn.

Although Mrs Gries was ailing for a number of years, in her consideration for others she never mentioned her sufferings, her nature being generous, unselfish. As a loyal wife, a loving mother, a true and valued friend, the vacancy of her place on earth will be deeply felt.
