WELL KNOWN MAN CALLED
SQUIRE EMGE PASSES AWAY ON SUNDAY AFTER AN ILLNESS
LONG-TIME RESIDENT OF THE COUNTY LEAVES HOST OF FRIENDS
At 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, Mr. Christopher Emge, an aged and well-known resident of Washington county, died at his home near Churchtown, after an illness extending over a period of about four weeks. Hardening of the arteries was the cause of his passing away.
Mr. Emge was one of the prominent citizens of the county and a man with a very large circle of friends, who will grieve because of his passing. He was affiliated with the democratic party in politics, was a man of principle and integrity and had the high respect of those who knew him.
Christopher Emge was born at Frankfort-on-the-Main, north germany, August 27th, 1828, thuis having been in his 84th year at the time of his death. At the age of ten years, he moved with his parents to this country, locating first in Pittsburg, where he received his early education. In 1855, he moved to Washington county, which has since been his home.
By trade, Mr. Emge was a carpenter and builder and later he devoted his time to his farm. For 25 years he was clerk of the old Union township. For the past 16 years (continued on page four)

Funeral services were held for Edward Valentine Emge at 9 a. m. today at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Churchtown. He died Saturday afternoon at the age of 85 in Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Beverly.
He was born Nov. 7, 1876, in Churchtown, the son of the late Christopher and Mary Jane Barnett Emge. He spent his entire life in the community until his retirement as a farmer.
He was a member of St. John Baptist Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of that church. He was married to Mary Elizaebth Secrest Emge who died in August, 1952.
Surviving are his son, Albert Edward of Marietta Rt. 2, two daughters, Mrs. Bert (Anna) Clark of Marietta Rt. 2 and Mrs. Frank (Margaret) Marden of Santa Rosa, Calif., and four grandchildren.
Wieser and Cawley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
