He was Highly Esteemed in Life and is Deeply Mourned in Death
A Brief Sketch of His Life and Movements in New Albany
In the death of Paul REISING, which occurred at the family residence on West Spring street at about two o'clock this morning, New Albany loses one of its most valuable citizens and the church one of its strongest pillows. His death was not unexpected. He had been in poor health for several years past, and had been confined to his bed for several weeks prior to his death with urinary troubles, and for the past few days his demise had been momentarily expected. Death came to him as an angel of peaceful rest. while he was surrounded by the immediate friends of his family consisting of his wife, daughter and five grand-children.
In all things, Paul Reising was strictly an honorable man, and this trait of character was one of his most prominent. He was greatly esteemed by all persons having a knowledge of his charcter and his death will be mourned with sincere sorrow. Deceased was a most charitable man in life and there were few if any as cheerful as he could be. No matter what the cause, so long as it was deserving, he was ever a liberal subscriber. To St. Mary's Catholic Church in which he held a membership he was most gracious in his donations, and in his death it loses one of its most devout members and strongest supporters.
Paul Reising was 77 years of age at the time of his death. He was born in Hierstein, Bavaria, October 5, 1819. In 1854 he left his native country to seek his fortune in America. His first work in this country was at the Otto brewery, Louisville, where he secured the position of foreman which he held for two years. Two years later he started a common beer brewery on East Main street, this city, which he operated until he established in 1860 the present plant of the Paul Reising Brewing Company on West Fourth street, on a small scale. This was the beginning of his real prosperity which continued uninterrupted up to the time of his death. In 1893 he organized the Paul Reising Brewing Company which consisted of himself and son-in-law, Mr. Fred. Kistner. Upon the death of Mr. Kistner, a couple of years later, he concluded to sell the plant and a few months ago disposed of it to John Meyers, the present owner and manager. Deceased is supposed to have left a very comfortable fortune for his family.
Mr. Reising's funeral will be held from St. Mary's Catholic church Monday morning at 9 o'clock.
Hon. Charles L. Jewett, whose law firm has for many years been the attorneys for the Resing Brewing Company as well as Mr. Reising's personal attorneys. in a conversation with a Ledger reporter yesterday paid high tribute to the life and charcter of Mr. Reising. He said:
"The carreer of Paul Reising is a splendid proof of what may be accomplished by persistent industry, unwavering honesty and strictly minding one's own business. Mr. Reising had few advantages. He was born in a foreign land, was physiccaly a small man and modest and retiring in his dispostion. Yet for nearly half a century he has lived in this community, steadily grown in popularity and business importance, and during the whole time I doubt if he made an enemy or had an unkind word spoken of him, and certainly he never deserved one. He was generous to the poor, helpful to the struggling, kind and respectful in his treatment of everyone, entirely without vanity and a just man in every relation of life."

Paul Reising, one of New Albany's leading business men, dide last Saturday. He had been in failing in health for several years. He was 77 years of age and leaves a wife and one child. His funeral took place yesterday.
